F.A.Q.
Frequently asked questions:
Why do you do this?
I do this because I love music and entertaining plus the intimacy of a house concert. The house has such wonderful acoustics, it would be a shame to not share it. I also love being able to support working musicians, by offering them new audiences and financial rewards.
Do you make money from this?
Absolutely not. All money goes directly to the musicians. If you’re interested in the work that I do, just ask me.
Do I need to reserve a seat (and pay) ahead of time?
We have space for about 40 guests, and I prioritize reservations as they are paid for.
I’m not sure I can make it—can I still make a reservation?
If you’re tentative, go ahead and call or email your reservation to be put on the waiting list. If we start to fill up, we’ll contact you let you know we need payment to confirm your reservation.
What if I pay and then find I can’t attend?
Understandably, your plans may change. You are welcome to send a substitute. Please let us know as soon as possible if no one is coming so that we can still fill the seat.
Can I get a refund if I cancel?
We do not offer refunds for cancellations. Do know that the money still goes directly to the musician, who is deeply grateful for your support. If you notify us at least 24 hours in advance, we can usually make arrangements for you to receive credit towards purchase (e.g., a CD) from the musician.
Can children attend?
Well-behaved children are always welcome. A house concert is a wonderful way to introduce young people to great music in a home environment. However, you may want to ask yourself if they can sit quietly for 45 minutes at a time, especially during the time of day/evening the concert occurs.
How long does the show run?
Most musicians do 2 sets of 45-50 minutes each, with about a 20-30 minute break (for mingling and yummy refreshments) in between.
Do you have pets?
We have two affectionate cats who live here. We can restrict their access if needed. If you have allergies, you may want to bring your allergy medication or refrain from attending the indoor concerts (we hope to schedule some for the front porch in warmer weather!). Please contact us with any concerns.
Are you wheelchair accessible?
Unfortunately, we are not. As the house is nearly 100 years old, most of its doorways are too narrow to accommodate a wheelchair. The front and back entrances each have 5 steps (with handrail). Please contact us ahead with questions and/or special needs. We’re glad to help if we can.
Is there anything I can bring?
Most musicians have CDs for sale, and some even have T-shirts and other gear. You may want to bring some extra cash or your checkbook, in case you decide you can’t live without taking something home. And don’t forget to ask the musicians to autograph whatever you buy!
